There is just under a month before entries close for the 2019/2020 AfriSam-SAIA Sustainable Design Award. The bi-annual award recognises contributions that bring sustainable innovation to human living environments. Entries can be submitted into four categories – sustainable architecture, research in sustainability, sustainable products and technology, and sustainable social programmes.

Ten years ago we launched the AfriSam-SAIA Sustainable Design Award to recognise outstanding individuals by driving the sustainability agenda in social advocacy, research, design and tech innovation. Sustainability is no longer just a concern of a niche few individuals, in recent years, it has gained considerable traction from all quarters to safeguard the future of our planet and future generations.

Over the past decade, the Sustainable Design Award programme has undergone significant changes to become more responsive and inclusive. Projects can now be entered into four categories that projects can be submitted into:

  1. SUSTAINABLE ARCHITECTURE
  2. RESEARCH IN SUSTAINABILITY
  3. SUSTAINABLE PRODUCTS AND TECHNOLOGY
  4. SUSTAINABLE SOCIAL PROGRAMMES

All four categories are geared towards the recognition of regenerative whole system designs. Entries should demonstrate how they embody innovative thinking in the field of sustainability to achieve a better future for all.
