Micro-enterprises are often forced into informalisation due to regulations around obtaining title deeds and complying with land system requirements. Earlier this year, the Sustainable Livelihoods Foundation (SLF) conducted a series of ‘solution lab’ events, bringing specialists together to discuss solutions for unlocking land and enabling township micro-enterprises to formalise and invest in property.

Participants were drawn from industry, provincial and local government, civil society organisations and academia. The events generated in-depth discussions on the topics of land use titles and rights, the need for an appropriate land use management scheme and the importance of micro-enterprise formalisation.
